Ubud is known among international travellers as the greenest part of Bali due to its many natural attractions, which are characterised by lush greenery, forests, ridge trails and rice terraces. One of the most visited places is the Tegallalang Rice Field, also known as Tegallalang Rice Terrace. These beautifully arranged rice terraces use a traditional Balinese irrigation system called “subak,” which legend has it was brought about by the sage Rsi Markandeya in the 8th century.

The Tegallalang rice field is located in a valley that offers breathtaking views of the terraces and the surrounding green landscape. Together with the terraces in the villages of Pejeng and Campuhan, they form three of the most beautiful terraced landscapes in the Ubud region.
